Before your first refill
What is a refillery?
A shop or service that sells products through a refill or reusable-container system. Some fill your container in person; others sell prefilled bottles that you return. Each listing identifies its format.
What should I bring on my first visit?
Check the shop’s container policy first. Bring clean, dry containers with secure lids if accepted. Ask staff to weigh the empty container before filling and label each product. Follow product-specific storage and handling instructions.
Can I refill food and cleaning products at the same place?
Only where the shop explicitly offers those products. Jar lists bulk pantry goods as well as household refills; Sol offers pantry delivery. Keep food containers separate from containers previously used for cleaning products.
Is refilling always cheaper?
Prices, container costs, deposits and delivery minimums vary. Compare the unit price for the specific product and check current terms with the business. YinzMart does not guarantee savings.
Are these products certified organic, allergy-safe or completely waste-free?
A refill format does not establish those claims. Check ingredients, labels and certifications with the seller; this guide does not certify environmental performance or suitability for allergies.
Why are some counties empty?
Our focus covers nine counties, but this first verified selection has shop locations in Allegheny and Somerset. An empty filter means we have not added a verified listing there, not that no refill business exists. Suggest a local spot below.
LOCAL INNOVATION
Pittsburgh is rethinking packaging, too.
Parcel Health makes the Tully Tube, a paper-based prescription bottle designed to reduce plastic in medication packaging. The Pittsburgh company earned a place on TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 list. This is a packaging maker, not a public refill or bottle-return location.
Pick an everyday item, check the shop’s current offering, and ask about containers before your visit. Bottle-return programs may have their own vessel and credit rules.
